CONCEPT SOLUTION

Small Business Saturday is just two days after Thanksgiving, one day after Black Friday, and two days before Cyber Monday. This is just one day out of the 365-day calendar. Do people think of intentionally spending money locally just on one day out of the year? What happens to the other 364 days of the year when you can shop locally instead of in big retail stores?

2022 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey says that 72% of shoppers said Small Business Saturday makes them want to shop and dine at small, independently-owned retailers and restaurants all year long, so why don’t we have a day dedicated to it when people want to shop local businesses? We should be intentional about where we put and spend our money because our money follows where the circulation of money within that area.

Localize is a year-round mindset that was created to break the unbreakable relationship between the suppliers, owners, and customers so that we can help each other when we are faced with a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic, but hopefully, we won’t have to face something like this again. We must be equipped and ready to face any challenges that we have no control over and be ready to help each other whether we ask for it or not.

The pandemic made it extremely difficult for small businesses to stay in business as the restrictions of the lockdowns made it impossible to stay open for in-person sales that are required with foot traffic to make sales. With the pandemic, other issues arose like more competition, inflation, supply chain issues, and getting reliable workers.

Will small businesses ever recover from the aftermath of the pandemic?

How did business owners deal with the new changes of the pandemic?

How did employees react to the new situation and if they faced unemployment?

How did businesses adapt to the shutdown in 2020 and the ones that followed the initial one in March 2020?

These were just some of the thoughts I tried to answer through primary research when thinking of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses.
